New Year New Work
The above painting on canvasĀ is ‘A Thimble Full of Red’ which was recently selected for The Midlands Open & sold at the Tarpey Gallery.
The title is taken from a quote by Henri Matisse ~
“A thimbleful of red is redder than a bucketful.”
I’ve been asked to put together some work for a gallery and I shall be working on some new pieces for this, some of which will be on canvas.
previous to 2011 I had always painted on canvas, however for the last 18 months I have only painted on paper.
Although 18 months doesn’t sound too long ago, returning to painting on canvas leaves me feeling a little apprehensive as I know there’s going to be a battle with it for a while.

There is a big difference between canvas and paper. I think it is the feeling of permanence that makes canvas so much more frightening, at first, but then that feeling becomes exhilarating and inspiring. Go for it!
Many thanks for your comment & encouragement! I think your right Leya, and it was one of the reasons I made the shift to working on paper. But I think it’s time to revisit working on canvas. Feeling very excited at the thought of it.
This is a lovely piece!
Many thanks Cindy!
